This stunning property sits on the land of what was once the Grand Hotel. In the late 1800s and early 1900s millions of visitors came by train to escape the hot, New York City summer. Tuberculosis was epidemic, and anyone who could sent their families up for the balsam fresh air and pure water of the Catskills. Of the many hotels, inns and boarding houses, none was grander than the Grand Hotel in Highmount. This magnificent structure was built in 1881 and closed in 1966. It burned down and the current owners purchased it and turned it into The Owl's Nest Restaurant and Lodge. It was a favorite of locals and the ski crowd, as Belleayre Ski Center is directly across the street. The wonderful space that housed the restaurant has a lodge like feel. A step back in time. Everything has been left as it once was. The bar is fully stocked with the original glasses and the commercial kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans, dishes, etc. The spacious dining room offers stunning views of the Catskill Mountains and the ski trails. The bar area is a step back in time with bar stools, glassware, ashtrays and even a phone booth! A private lounge offers yet another bar, sitting area and the original stone fireplace of the Grand Hotel. Upstairs you will find two ensuite suite bedrooms for guests. The front door off the main dining room will take you out to a deck with magical views of the Catskill Mountains overlooking the Big Indian Valley towards Slide Mountain. The original stonework from the Grand Hotel remains and is stunning. Stone walls, paths, a patio area and the grand front staircase. A separate building was a lodge and offered eight apartments. Both buildings need substantial work to bring them back to life. Given the proximity to Manhattan, minutes to a popular ski resort and close to Woodstock, Kingston and all the Hudson Valley has to offer this is an excellent opportunity to transform it into the venue of your dreams!
